HAMDEN, CT — Independence Solar announces the completion of a 125 kW Phase 2 addition to the rooftop solar array in Hamden, CT at the site of Burt Process Equipment, Inc.’s headquarters. The combined 250 kW system featuring nearly 900 solar panels will generate nearly 100% of the building’s annual electrical usage.
The installation is connected to The United Illuminating Company’s electrical network and is a part of the Zero Emissions Renewable Energy Certificate (or “ZREC”) program which secures a 15-year contract with the utility. The program has provided a significant boost to Connecticut’s solar market and helped the State achieve its aggressive clean energy targets.
As Stephen Burt, President of Burt Process Equipment put it, “Our company’s corporate vision statement is to be a leader in the worldwide community striving to create a better environment through innovative and responsible use of water and natural resources. Solar ties right into that. “
Independence Solar had the support of installation partner Pat Munger Construction, a full service-building contractor with over 40 years of experience in quality commercial construction. Independence and Munger were able to complete the project in less than two months “without impacting BPE’s daily operations.”
As Vice President of Independence Solar, James Schwartz, put it: “Burt Process Equipment is an ideal candidate for solar as it fits solidly within their commitment to energy efficient products. We completed the Phase 1 system in 2013 and it was exciting to have the opportunity to add this second phase four years later. Having already formed a complimentary working relationship, Independence Solar was able to confidently promise and deliver on a tight schedule of project milestones from project start to finish. It is a privilege for us to work with clients like Burt Process who understand not only the potential cost-savings when installing solar, but how it correlates to their overall business strategy.“
